Pathology Queensland has an exciting oppotunuty for a Part-Time (0.70FTE) Medical Director at Queensland Children’s Hospital Laboratory. The Medical Director oversees Pathology Queensland operations at the Queensland Children’s Hospital Laboratory. This role holds ultimate responsibility for clinical standards and professional integrity, all while delivering great value for Queenslanders through the Department of Health. A competitive salary applies - total remuneration (0.70FTE) includes base salary, motor vehicle allowance, professional development allowance and retention and attraction allowance (50% of base pay) and a Clinical Managers Allowance. Salary packaging options also apply to allow you to maximise your income.

Your key responsibilities
You will be required to fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the Queensland Public Service values.
Clinical Practice
- Develop and maintain clinical excellence across the service.
- Provide timely, efficient, cost-effective diagnostic services.
- Collaborate with laboratory scientific and technical staff to ensure service excellence.
- Ensure that the service is fully accredited.
Clinical Governance
- Ensure that the service is fully accredited.
- Direct and undertake clinical audits, review and evaluate test results and quality assurance results.
- Maintain an annual risk register and report quarterly to the Chief Pathologist/Executive Director Pathology Queensland on abnormal risks.
- Audit teaching and research programs and projects.
- Assist Pathology Queensland to design and implement diagnostic and scientific workload systems including a management reporting module.
Education and Research
- Develop and implement annual teaching and research activities that directly support defined clinical objectives and professional wellbeing of staff.
- Support education and training programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Provide registrars and others working in Department with appropriate training and instruction in accordance with professional standards.

- Develop and maintain professional working relationship with clients, stakeholders and staff through effective communication.
- Deliver, promote and maintain patient and customer focussed services.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated high level managerial ability in strategic planning and the provision of a client focused, comprehensive, high quality and cost-effective service.
- Demonstrated current clinical and technical expertise with appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities in your discipline with evidence of commitment to maintenance of personal skills in these areas and to the provision of a client focused service.
- Demonstrated personal qualities of leadership, including high level communication skills, motivation, initiative, time management and commitment to negotiation and team building.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- Proven experience in directing pathology services at the Department level
- Mandatory requirements are a medical qualification and tertiary qualification in a Pathology discipline and be registerable with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Specialist Pathologist.
- The incumbents must be Fellows of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia or equivalent.
- Qualifications in medical administration or demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in medical administration.
- Experience with directing teaching and applied research.

VPD Requirements
- It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
