Join TAFE Queensland’s Academy of Sport, where industry meets education. Working in partnership with elite sporting organisations including the Brisbane Broncos, Brisbane Lions, Brisbane Bullets, and the Parramatta Eels, you’ll help prepare future sport professionals through practical, industry led training.

Established in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Academy of Sport delivers immersive learning experiences at elite venues, supported by industry mentors and nationally recognised qualifications.

The Role

We’re seeking one Casual Teacher to deliver fast tracked diploma programs at the Parramatta Eels Institute (NSW) across:

  • Diploma of Leadership and Management
  • Diploma of Sport
  • Diploma of Project Management

You’ll bring learning to life by connecting theory to real world sport environments, mentoring students, and supporting their transition into the industry.

About You

  • You’re an engaging educator with strong industry experience and a passion for developing future talent. Ideally, you’ll have:
  • A background in the sports industry, with experience in leadership, coaching, or project management
  • Capability to deliver high impact, student centred training
  • Experience in vocational education and training (or a strong desire to transition into teaching)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • A solid understanding of rugby league (highly desirable)

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Display teaching competence and a commitment to a student-centred approach.
  • Lead and manage effective teaching and learning within classroom, workplace, simulated and online learning environments with a focus on student engagement, progression and success.
  • Utilise flexible, blended and inclusive learning techniques, options and products which are responsive to various student cohorts, including commencing students and those with priority needs.
  • Design, develop and implement assessment tools and processes that meet industry skills standards (i.e. endorsed components from National Training Packages). 
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance the quality of training and assessment provided to students.
  • Develop effective working relationships with students, client groups and staff by participating in team meetings, industry reference groups, student events and forums, inviting feedback and engaging in reflection.
  • Ensure that students adopt, and practise accepted safety procedures and sustainability in the learning and assessment environment.
  • Contribute to planning, design, development, implementation and review of educational programs.
  • Participate in relevant professional learning activities to develop and maintain currency of personal and professional skills, knowledge and attitudes for both industry and learning, teaching and assessment.
  • Undertake general administration duties including monitoring of student attendance and progression, facilitating access to educational support and providing effective feedback and advice. 
  • Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Safety First, Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility and Showing Initiative.  

How you will be assessed

  1. Possess skills and knowledge of national training packages and accredited courses to support competency development and the ability to respond positively to industry and individual needs. 
  2. Demonstrate capacity for best practice in the management of teaching and learning activities including the development of industry relevant, flexible, innovative, technology enhanced learning options, training products and solutions.
  3. Demonstrate capacity for initiative, self-management, teamwork and sustainable practice, with the ability to accept, promote and manage change using tarawell-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  4. Demonstrate commitment to self-development with the focus on maintaining skills contemporary industry and teaching practices and the use of educational technologies and Learning Management Systems to support learning.
  5. Possess sound knowledge of safe, equitable and anti-discriminatory work practices and demonstrate ability to be flexible, inclusive, responsive and deliver quality student experience.

Highly Desirable

The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:

  • Vocational competency at, or above, the level of delivery, with qualifications in Sport and/or Leadership and Management considered highly desirable
  • Current industry skills and knowledge relevant to the delivery of sport, leadership, or management training
  • An understanding of contemporary vocational education and competency based assessment practices
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in training, learning, and assessment
  • Eligibility to hold relevant compliance clearances, including Working with Children and NDIS Worker Screening

To teach at TAFE Queensland, candidates are required to hold, or be willing to obtain, an appropriate Training and Assessment qualification (such as a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or an approved equivalent).
