🌴HP5 Allied Health Manager - North | Working from Thursday Island (Waiben)

This is not a metro job. And that's exactly the point! If you're looking for predictable, polished and comfortable - this role probably isn't for you.

But if you're ready for meaningful leadership, deep learning, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience, keep reading :)

🚀 About the role

We're seeking an experienced Allied Health Manager to lead and support multidisciplinary allied health services across the Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area (NPA), working from Thursday Island (Waiben).

This is a leadership role offering genuine autonomy, complexity, and professional growth you simply won't find in a metro setting. You'll:

  • Lead and support a diverse allied health workforce across remote and island communities
  • Navigate clinical, cultural, logistical and workforce challenges with flexibility and heart
  • Work in partnership with local communities, health workers and stakeholders
  • Balance strategic management with hands-on problem solving
  • Learn fast, adapt faster, and grow as a leader in ways few roles can offer

Ready for a meaningful role that starts with a yarn? Marita Sagigi, 0488 759 402 would love to hear your story.

🌅 Life on Thursday Island (Waiben)

Thursday Island sits at the very top of Australia - surrounded by turquoise water, strong culture and strong winds.

Yes, it's hot, windy and remote, but it's also:

  • Deeply community-connected
  • Rich in culture and history
  • Full of adventure - fishing, boating, camping, island hopping
  • A place where people know your name and look out for each other

In the Torres Strait and NPA, relationships matter. You don't just work for community, you work with community.

You'll be greeted by community members everywhere you go and will commonly hear “Youpla alright?” to check in to see how you are doing?  Sharing laughs and yarns, will make you appreciate that learning here goes far beyond textbooks or policies.

🧡 Why this role is different

  • This job is like nothing you will experience in a metro area
  • You'll see an incredible variety of presentations
  • You'll develop cultural awareness and appreciation that stays with you for a lifetime
  • You'll develop leadership skills which are more grounded, adaptable and build resilience along the way
  • You'll make decisions that actually matter to the remote communities - and see the impacts these make

💬 Who this role is for

You might be right for this role if you:

  • Are an experienced allied health clinician with leadership experience (HP5 level)
  • Are adaptable, resilient and comfortable with uncertainty
  • Lead with curiosity, humility and respect
  • Value relationships as much as results
  • Want to challenge yourself professionally and personally
