About us:

The Orthopaedic team comprises the Clinical Director, 5.4 FTE Staff Specialist / Senior Medical Officer (SMO), with subspeciality interests of arthroplasty, sports, foot and ankle, shoulder and elbow, spine and hands. We have one AOA SET trainee, 7 principal house officers (PHO's), 2 resident medical officers (RMO's) and 4 interns. Medical students from the University of Queensland rotate through the Department. We also have an Orthogeriatrician working alongside us. Orthopaedic patients are admitted to the 44-bed surgical ward. Our theatre complex comprises 5 operating theatres and 1 procedure room in Rockhampton and 3 operating theatres in Gladstone. We provide telehealth consultations to Gladstone, Emerald and various other small regional / rural hospitals. The Orthopaedic unit places significant emphasis on working as a cohesive supportive team and we look forward to welcoming the successful candidate into our work family.

About the role:

The role is to assist the Director, Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeons and other Senior Medical Staff, in a variety of Orthopaedic services such as elective operating, general and specialist trauma operating, elective and fracture clinics, teaching, contribution towards regular audit, M&M and departmental research.

About you:

  • MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of MBBS or equivalent to enable registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) at Level 3 supervision.
    • If qualifications were obtained outside Australia, the candidate must be eligible for registration with AHPRA with the appropriate supervision level and provide the following:
    • Evidence of successful completion of IELTS or equivalent English Language test results within the last year.
    • Evidence of successful completion AMC MCQ (part 1) examination.
    • Evidence of recency of clinical practice, supported by current references.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Current AHPRA general registration and a minimum of two years practice within the Australian healthcare system is preferred.
    • Experience and qualifications in Orthopaedics is well regarded.

Salary information:

Total remuneration value of up to $177,969 p.a. (L9) is comprised of:

  • A salary rate between $134,489 - $147,585 p.a. (L4-L7)
  • A salary rate between $134,489 - $155,125 p.a. (L4-L9)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
