About us:

The 24-hour Core Midwifery Service operates across three shifts, providing comprehensive inpatient antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care. The Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) supports women across all risk categories, offering birthing care for those classified as low to moderate risk (ACMI). High-risk women receive antenatal and postnatal care through Share Care and are referred to Cairns for birthing. Additionally, the service plays a vital role in breastfeeding support, offering advice and education to midwives, medical staff, and the broader community.

Mareeba Hospital provides healthcare services to the local community, supporting primary health centres and Lotus Glen Correctional Centre. It offers emergency care, medical imaging, maternity, and medical wards, along with a variety of specialist outpatient services.

Mareeba experiences a tropical savanna climate, characterized by a short, hot wet season and a long, warm dry season. Agriculture and tourism drive the local economy, with diverse tropical fruits, vegetables, poultry, and cattle contributing to the region's prosperity.

Our values were developed by our staff, patients and community. They guide our work and actions every day. Our staff are part of the community we serve. We believe that we can improve health outcomes by involving our community in the planning and evaluation of their local health services.
