The Delivery Services Branch – Better Hospital Flow (BHF) project team is seeking an experienced Principal Business Intelligence Developer with proven experience in building scalable business intelligence solutions using Databricks and Power BI. You’ll work closely with stakeholders, analysts, and data modellers to deliver integrated, high-impact data solutions within a large IM/ICT environment. The role:

Reporting to the BHF Project Program Manager within the Delivery Services Branch, you'll collaborate with delivery teams, support staff, and subject matter experts to build a modern, cloud-based BI solution. As a Principal Business Intelligence Developer, you'll play a key role in implementing a centralised data and analytics platform that consolidates near real-time data to serve as a single source of truth. It will feature journey-centric visualisations tailored to user roles, providing deep patient flow insights and predictive analytics to forecast demand and system pressure. The system must be robust, secure, and scalable to meet the needs of a modern health service.

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping our BHF business intelligence reporting and analytics solution. Success will come from your ability to use analytics best practices to build solution within Databricks and Power BI that powers decision-making across the Queensland Health.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • End-to-end Power BI stack expertise integrated with Databricks (semantic models, DAX, performance tuning, refresh scheduling, deployments) as a mandatory requirement for the initial phase.
  • Strong data and data modelling capability (dimensional modelling, data marts, SQL) to translate complex information into simple, digestible visuals.
  • Proven experience creating and maintaining reporting and BI dashboards (Power BI mandatory; QlikView/QlikSense experience valued).
  • Strong data visualisation and reporting layout skills to present complex information clearly in Power BI.
  • Strong stakeholder communication, documentation, and ability to deliver outcomes with minimal supervision.

Highly Desirable

  • Experience with healthcare operational datasets (PFM, SWMIS, ieMR or similar).
  • Familiarity with ODS or Lakehouse architectures feeding Power BI.
  • Exposure to accessibility and reporting governance standards.
  • Experience operating Power BI within Databricks and Azure environments.
