As the Assistant in Nursing (Sterilisation Technician), you’ll play a vital role in maintaining safe, high-quality clinical environments by supporting effective sterilisation and infection control practices. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse / Midwife, you’ll carry out delegated tasks, assist with stock and supply management, and follow standardised procedures to ensure equipment is prepared safely and efficiently.

About us:

The Perioperative Unit is located in block two on the first floor of Gladstone Hospital. The Gladstone Hospital has two operating rooms and a procedure room. Services include elective and emergency surgery, Day Surgery, Pre-Anaesthetic Clinic, and Central Sterilising Services Department.

The Perioperative Unit provides clinical care through the development and maintenance of relevant and proven patient care standards involving ongoing research in clinical applications.

About the role:

  • Responsible for accepting delegated tasks/duties which require basic skills, training and experience.
  • Gather information about stocks and supplies to assist the Registered Nurse to plan sterilising work.
  • Perform and report on procedures as delegated by the Registered Nurse.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe practice - infection control and sterilisation measures.
  • Adhere to established guidelines, protocols, procedures, standards and systems of work as set out by the organisation
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a physically, culturally and psychosocially safe environment for recipients of healthcare services and staff.
  • Maintain personal ongoing education and development portfolio.

About you:

  • Certificate III in Sterilisation Services is mandatory for this role.
  • Demonstrates sound evidence-based clinical skills for an undergraduate student in Nursing/Midwifery.
  • Ability to communicate oral and written information promptly and accurately.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work to the values for the CQ Health.
  • Ability to use negotiation skills to avoid conflict and work with others.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and thoughtfully with other staff, patients, and carers.
  • Committed to the delivery of high quality, safe patient centred care, practice, and service.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $17,232 p.a. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $37.00 - $38.08 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
