An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Staff Specialist or Senior Staff Specialist to join the Obstetrics and Gynaecology team at Townsville University Hospital.

There are both temporary full-time and part-time positions available, up to 31/01/2027 (hours negotiable).

About the opportunity  

The role of the Staff Specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology is to provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to benefit the patients / clients of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS). This includes research as well as teaching the health professionals of the future.

Lead and manage the provision of medical services in accordance with the standard of the speciality, the ethics of the profession and in accordance with the THHS and Queensland Health (QH) policies, in a hospital, community and outreach setting staff.

PLEASE NOTE - There are both temporary full-time and part-time vacancies up to  available, up to 31/01/2027 (hours negotiable).  There is a possibility of an additional 12 months extension.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated broad skills, knowledge and clinical competence in general obstetrics and gynaecology.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ensuring and reviewing quality of care by participation in peer review and quality assurance programs.
  • Demonstrated participation in undergraduate and post-graduate education and research.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the principles of quality improvement and to the principles of health service accreditation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of infection control and universal precaution principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage staff in line with quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety, and ethical behaviour.

  • Salary range: $8303.90 - $10528.40 p.f. / $103.80 - $131.61 p.h. (L18-L27)
  • 5 weeks annual leave with 17.5% loading
  • Allowances: Locality, Atraction and Retention, Motor Vehicle, Regional and Rural, Professional Development + leave
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
  • Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available

Requirements:

  • Qualified as a medical practitioner, qualifications in specialty areas and current registration / or eligible for registration as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
