About the role
As a Clinical Midwife, you will provide advanced, woman-centred midwifery care across the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal continuum, working in partnership with First Nations women, families, and community services. This role combines autonomous clinical practice with professional leadership, education, and service development, supporting positive maternal and neonatal outcomes through culturally responsive and evidence based care. You will work across hospital, community, and home based settings and play a key role in co-designing and strengthening First Nations focused perinatal services in Mount Isa.
- Participate in the development and delivery of culturally appropriate consumer/person education programs/information to facilitate women's engagement with the North West Hospital and Health Service (NWHHS) Maternity service, enabling women and their families to move towards independence and closing the gap in health outcomes for First Nations women and their families.
- Provide expert assessment, care, and evaluation of interventions for complex midwifery and newborn care needs.
Working with us
- For 1 year will get you an isolation bonus of AUD$3,605. If you stay for 2 years you will get AUD$10,815… and for your 3rd year (and every year after that) you will get AUD$7,210 (pro rata for part time employees).
In your downtime, we will provide 2 return airfares p.a. (full time employees) (inc. spouse/dependents) or 1 return airfare p.a. (part time employees) to the nearest east coast provincial city in conjunction with your recreation leave; of which we offer 6 weeks p.a.
- Base salary ranges between $111,198 and $119,072 p.a. (Nurse Grade 6 (Band 1)).
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution.
- Long Service Leave and Sick Leave accrual.
- Tax savings through salary sacrificing options are also available.
Plus 2 weeks p.a., travel as required and enrolment and conference costs for approved courses and conferences.
We also offer staff accommodation (if eligible) or a private rental subsidy of AUD$82.50 per week for up to 17 months.

Requirements
- Mandatory requirements are a relevant tertiary degree qualification and appropriate registration/licences as a Registered Midwife.
- A post graduate qualification or currently enrolled in a post graduate program in a relevant area of study is highly desirable.
- C Class Motor Vehicle Licence.
- Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including Criminal History checks.
- This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
- A period of probation may apply.
