An opportunity has become available for a Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist (Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Physician) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10,000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

About the role

Provide comprehensive clinical care to patients with respiratory disease across Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service (GCHHS). It is expected that the applicant would have completed advanced training in the field of respiratory medicine and have gained expertise in managing patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) by obtaining post fellowship training or higher degree in the field of CF. In addition, having accreditation in the field of sleep medicine will be advantageous. Having administrative qualification to run sleep lab and CF unit would be highly desirable.

Clinical responsibilities will include in-patient and out-patient care with the existing respiratory physicians, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse consultants in a multidisciplinary environment under the guidance of the Medical Director of Respiratory. Provide professional leadership in the area of General Respiratory Medicine and CF by providing training, education and supervision of registrars, junior medical staff and other health care providers attached to this department. It is anticipated the successful applicant will develop a multidisciplinary CF team, facilitate collaboration with other CF centres and lead the research activity within this unit. Managing complex sleep patients both in outpatient and inpatient setting along with sleep lab management is highly desirable.

Requirements for the role

  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B.
  • Tuberculosis screening - to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required.
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
  • MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia plus FRACP or equivalent acceptable to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and registrable as a Respiratory and Sleep Medicine specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Relevant qualification/s and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • The incumbent will be required to participate in an after-hours and on-call roster for the Respiratory department.

Salary information

  • Temporary part time (32 hours per fortnight, 12 month contract)
  • Senior Staff Specialist: Base hourly rate from $124.13 - $131.61 p.h
  • Staff Specialist: Base hourly rate from $103.80 - $120.57 p.h
  • Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
