About us:

The Central Sterilising Department (CSD) is a critical service to Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CQHHS), reprocessing high volumes of reusable surgical instruments and other medical devices daily. The CSD operates directly from the guidelines outlined in the National Standards in Reprocessing (AS 5369:2023 Reprocessing of reusable medical devices in health service organisations). The CSD Rockhampton Hospital is managed by the Nurse Unit Manager and supported clinically by; the Clinical Nurse, Registered Nurse, Enrolled Nurse Advanced Practice; and are supported by qualified Enrolled Nurses and Assistants in Nursing Certificate III in Sterilisation Services.

About the role:

  • Accepting accountability for the provision and delivery of safe procedures in the reprocessing of reusable medical devices and patient related equipment in the CSD.
  • Reporting immediately to the CSD shift supervisor any concerns or variations either experienced or observed whilst performing CSD duties.
  • Reporting in a timely manner to the Nurse Unit Manager.
  • Functioning in accordance with State and Central Queensland Health standards, workplace instructions, policies and procedures.
  • Communicating promptly, clearly, effectively and using appropriate documentation as necessary to provide written evidence.
  • Ensuring that corrective, instructional advice and feedback is utilised effectively to improve self in skills development and growth as a professional within the CSD team.

About you:

  • A Certificate III in Sterilising Services is a mandatory requirement for this position and appointment to this position requires proof of qualification. However, the provision of proof of actively and progressively studying towards completion of the Certificate III, may be considered.
  • CSD is a highly productive environment, this position requires all CSD personnel to undertake a variety of manual handling tasks daily in the CSD, such as standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, bending, and stretching.
  • Appointees are required to have a basic to advanced level of computer literacy skills.
  • All employees are required to complete and maintain mandatory training and competencies within the CQHHS policies and procedures.

What we offer:

  • An hourly rate between $46.25 - $47.60 p.h. (including 25% casual loading)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
