This role leads the development of strategic policy initiatives to support the care of people at risk of suicide across Queensland's mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and suicide prevention service system. You will drive statewide quality improvement and service development projects, ensuring evidence-based, timely and impactful outcomes that strengthen care across the sector.

What you'll do 

  • Lead the research, analysis and development of policy positions to strengthen suicide prevention across the mental health and alcohol and other drugs sector.
  • Analyse health data, emerging trends and international best practice to inform evidence-based policy and service improvement initiatives.
  • Provide high-level strategic advice and prepare briefs, submissions, reports and correspondence for senior executives and government stakeholders.
  • Lead and manage complex, statewide health service improvement projects, ensuring delivery of quality outcomes within timeframes.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders including Hospital and Health Services, Primary Health Networks, peak bodies and people with lived experience.

About you

What we are looking for:

  • Tertiary qualifications in public health, health policy, social sciences or a related discipline (postgraduate qualifications in policy or research highly desirable).
  • Strong understanding of the mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and suicide prevention service system, including national priorities and cross-sector dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake rigorous research, interpret complex data and provide critical, strategic policy analysis.
  • Proven experience preparing high-level written advice for senior executives, Ministers and external stakeholders.
  • High-level project management skills with experience delivering complex, time-critical statewide initiatives and building collaborative stakeholder relationships.
