The Birdie’s Tree Disaster Resilience and Recovery Program is a child- and family-centred mental health promotion initiative that supports the social and emotional wellbeing of infants, children and caregivers in the context of natural disasters. Your opportunity in this role will support, facilitate and deliver disaster resilience and recovery programs for children, families and communities across Queensland. You will actively engage communities, non-government organisations, and other stakeholders to support and strengthen the voices of the children and their families as they recover from and respond to natural disaster and/or disruptive events.

About the Team

The Queensland Centre for Perinatal and Infant Mental Health (QCPIMH) aims to support parents, caregivers and communities to have the confidence, knowledge, skills and resources to support their own wellbeing and raise emotionally healthy and resilient children. QCPIMH brings perinatal and infant mental health needs to the attention of policy and decision makers, and the general community, to improve the emotional wellbeing of all Queensland parents, infants and young children, and families.

About the Role

In this role you will coach and support others to deliver for children, young people and families (Leader of Others) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:

Clinical Practice:

  • Provide high level independent clinical services including assessment, intervention and referral for infants and young children at risk of mental health challenges, and their families and carers.
  • Deliver training and professional development sessions and programs for a range of audiences including early childhood educators, teachers, disaster management personnel, community organisations, parents, and others, to help support infants, young children and families through the preparedness, response, and recovery phases of natural disasters.

Communication / Team Participation:

  • Participate in outward-facing community engagement and mental health promotion and prevention strategies including liaising with community partners, engaging children and families at community events, libraries, playgroups, early learning centres, schools, and similar settings.

Leadership / Work Unit Management:

  • Lead quality activities and/or research to improve or contribute to the evidence base and strategies for continuously improving mental health practice.
