About us:

The Medical Unit lives and breathes within the Division of Critical and Emergent Care — and it never sleeps! Operating 24/7, 365 days a year, this dynamic team is all about delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while keeping hospital stays safe, smooth and just the right length.

Here, every patient journey is personalised — from tailored treatment plans and education to thoughtful discharge planning. Collaboration is key, with a strong multidisciplinary approach ensuring everyone works together for the best possible outcomes.

The Unit cares for patients with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions — from stroke and TIA management, high dependency medical care (including non-invasive respiratory support), and step-down from Coronary Care and ICU, to delirium management and alcohol and drug detoxification.

As the health service referral centre for stroke/TIA, infectious diseases, inpatient renal care, and cardiac patients requiring telemetry monitoring, this is where expertise, teamwork and compassion come together — all day, every day.

About the role:

A Clinical Nurse is more than a Registered Nurse — they're the clinical all-rounder with next-level skills and a knack for keeping everything (and everyone!) on track. Accountable at an advanced level, they coordinate specialty care with confidence, ensuring patients receive safe, high-quality, best-practice nursing every single day.

They're the steady leader on the floor — guiding and supporting nursing and medical teams, partnering closely with the unit's line manager, and juggling a portfolio that spans clinical excellence, leadership, management and education.

In practice, they shine across the four ANMC Competency Standards: leading with professionalism, thinking critically, coordinating and delivering exceptional care, and building strong, therapeutic relationships. Skilled, strategic and supportive — the Clinical Nurse helps turn great care into outstanding care.
