Role details

The Department of Medicine team at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Staff Specialist Endocrinology - Diabetes to join their team on a Permanent Full-Time basis (80 hrs p.f.).

Your opportunity

A clear emphasis on developing and growing an outstanding based endocrinology and diabetes services within a regional setting, providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care, while reinforcing general medicine services, contributing to safe, effective and patient centred care.  Supporting education, clinical governance and service development within the Department of Medicine. This role requires clinical independence, adaptability and a strong commitment to collaborative and patient centred care in a regional community.

Fully supported by Executive, Clinical and Operational Leads to be the leader who drives evidence-based practice improvements, ensuring we deliver an outstanding Endocrine and Diabetes service for the community.  Following the Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT) recent assessment the MHHS rise to the challenge of delivering excellence in diabetes care.  This will be delivered through your passion for improving patient care and optimising health outcomes.  You will be joining a small, but highly functional and committed multidisciplinary team on site, with additional support from tertiary hospitals across the region.  Enhancing current services by standardising care pathways and reducing unwanted variation through your unwavering leadership supported by your committed diabetes teams. 

About the Team

The Department of General Medicine manages patients with a diverse range of multiple active co-morbidities or undifferentiated illnesses above the age of 16 years that require ongoing inpatient, ward-based hospital care. We are a busy inpatient service with consultation and outpatient clinic responsibilities.

The successful applicant/s will be part of a collaborative team comprising of physicians with different subspecialties (including Adult Medicine, Endocrinology, Respiratory, Infectious Diseases, Oncology, Neurology, Nephrology, Rheumatology, IBD, Rehabilitation Medicine and Palliative care) working in close partnership with Cardiology (who provide 24/7 Primary PCI service), Emergency Medicine (FACEM lead) and Intensive Care (CICM led).
