This role will work predominately in historic child abuse matters and other matters where necessary to have a full case load.

Litigation
- Conduct litigation strategies in complex and/or sensitive matters within discipline.
- Represent clients in mediations or hearings for significant disputes.
- Use a wide range of highly developed litigation skills to prepare and present submissions in complex cases.
- Provide guidance on issues of advocacy, conduct, ethics and etiquette.
Legal advice
- Provide strategic advice on significant or urgent issues that require substantial professional judgement within the boundaries of broad guidelines.
- Manage and review advice from external providers.
- Independently identify and advise on potential legal risks and their strategic, commercial and policy implications.
Legal drafting
- Draft and settle significant or high-value documents.
- Resolve complex issues of drafting interpretation, with guidance available as required.
- Review drafting work of junior legal professionals.
Statutory interpretation
- Resolve complex interpretation problems requiring nuanced analysis and substantial professional judgement, with guidance available as required.
- Weigh competing interpretations and provide reasoned advice.
- Apply advanced understanding of legislative process and operation in statutory interpretation.
Legal research
- Lead large or multi-issue research tasks to achieve reliable outcomes, with guidance available as required.
- Ensure clarity, quality and timeliness in presentation of results.
- Guide others in organisation and evaluation of research findings on complex matters.
Client relationships
- Lead management of key client accounts within the practice.
- Balance service delivery with commercial considerations.
- Handle difficult client negotiations including debtor management.
Practice management
- Coach junior practitioners in good file management and billing practices.
- Ensure practice precedents are up to date and effectively used.
- Mentor staff in ethical and governance obligations.
- Contribute to improving systems and processes, recommending practical enhancements to practice management.
