About the Team

The QCH Psychology Team provides clinical, health and neuropsychology services to patients of QCH to support their psychological wellbeing in the context of their medical condition.

About the Role

  • Child and family-based assessment of the emotional, behavioural and psychosocial aspects of clinical care for children.
  • Routine psychometric assessment of cognition, learning, emotion and behaviour consistent with professional psychology standards.
  • Evidence-based interventions to address complex and broad-ranging client needs within the competency of psychology practice.
  • Provide competent clinical knowledge and clinical reasoning to multidisciplinary clinical care and participate as a member of the healthcare team.
  • Provide psychology services to ambulatory clinics and inpatient sub-speciality areas as required to support continuum of care needs of children and families, including liaison with other agencies to ensure efficient and appropriate service delivery.
  • As experience builds, demonstrate ability to manage increasingly complex caseloads and apply increasingly independent clinical judgement to more complex clinical decision making, under the clinical practice supervision or professional guidance of a more senior clinician.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of oral and written communication skills to work effectively with children, parents/carers, multi-disciplinary team members, other health professionals and agencies and contribute to clinical intervention, functional interpretations of assessment results and provision of treatment services.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively within the psychology team to achieve best outcomes for patients.
  • Maintain accurate and concise records and reports as required by the role for patient care and workload measurement statistics.
  • Participate in the use of evidence-informed practice to enhance client outcomes and promote evidence-based initiatives of psychology and ambulatory care services within the organisation.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities including professional development, supervision, performance appraisal and service improvement projects to provide a high quality of paediatric psychology services.
  • Provide student education and clinical practice supervision for less experienced practitioners, commensurate with the level of experience, as well as direction to assistant, support staff, under guidance of senior clinical practitioners.
