The role  

The position of the Clinical Nurse - Refugee and Community Health is responsible for assisting with all aspect of community health nursing care as well as the coordination of health screening for refugees relocating to Townsville, linkage to primary health care providers and providing access to defined clinical services outlined in the refugee health program under the Commonwealth Humanitarian Settlement Program. 

This role works autonomously within the Healthcare Team structure and is pivotal in the planning, managing, and delivering of refugee specialist nursing care and in collaboration and close communication with the Townsville Multicultural Group, General Practices and The Townsville Hospital to provide successful coordination of health screening and settlement services to transition successfully into their new lives through community connections.

The unit

Townsville Community Health Service provides a range of coordinated options for clients within the local Townsville University Hospital catchment, which include:

  • Post-acute care (after hospital care service)
  • Short-term, goal orientated therapy or group-based hospital avoidance interventions
  • Service Coordination

This is a permanent part-time role, working 38 hours per fortnight.   PLEASE NOTE -This role works 5 shifts per fortnight, Monday to Friday (days negotiable) with rostered hours set from 08:00 am - 16:06 pm.

  • Salary range: $56.08 - $60.05  p.h.  (NG6-1)
  • 4 weeks annual leave (pro rata) with 17.5% loading

  • Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available

Requirements:

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
  • Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
  • Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. 
  • Applicant ideally will have a working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, e.g., Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, Matrix and Power Point.
