Mental Health Clinician: Allied Health Practitioner
Brisbane
Deliver competent mental health services as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to optimise psycho-social outcomes for children and young people who are involved with the justice system, with severe and complex mental health and substance use problems and disorders. These services are provided in a variety of settings, including Magistrate courts, watch houses, detention centres, community clinics, schools and youth justice service centres. Travel, including overnight may be required, as the Forensic Child & Youth Mental Health Service area encompasses from Rockhampton to the border with NSW, and west to the borders with Northern Territory and South Australia.

About the Team
The Forensic Child and Youth Mental Health Service is a specialist Program within the Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service and is also part of the broader Queensland Forensic Mental Health Service. Forensic CYMHS provides assessment and treatment services to young people with mental health issues and significant behavioural disturbance that have resulted/or place them at elevated risk of involvement with the criminal justice system. The goals of the Forensic Program are to promote recovery in children and young people with mental health needs and offending behaviours, increase community safety and reduce the risk of offending. Our vision is to provide high quality clinical care and reduce service inequity to child and youth forensic mental health consumers across Queensland.
About the Role
In this role you will deliver quality outcomes for children, young people and families (Leader of Self) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:
Clinical Practice:
- Deliver core clinical services in accordance with the discipline specific Code of Ethics and the National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce. This includes:
- Diagnostic assessment and formulation and timely and appropriate treatment interventions, consistent with current best practice.
- Case management as part of the multidisciplinary team; more advanced clinicians will demonstrate higher levels of independence and clinical skills.
- Provision of reports consistent with discipline and Queensland Health (QH) standards.
- Referral, liaison and interagency collaborative care planning.
- Advocacy for consumers and their families/carers.
