Tell me more...Thursday Island is a lively and culturally rich community where island life blends beautifully with work, recreation, and tradition. With a diverse calendar of local festivals, creative workshops, outdoor adventures, and recreational activities which include camping, trekking, and community events, the island offers plenty of ways to unwind and connect.  Its warm, close‑knit atmosphere, strong cultural heritage, and access to unique Torres Strait experiences make it an inviting and fulfilling place to live, work, and play.

The Assistant Director of Nursing Primary Health Care provides professional and clinical leadership for nursing staff across outer island primary health care centres, programs, and GP services in the Torres Strait. Working within the Torres Model of Care, the role partners with operational leaders to guide the planning, coordination, and evaluation of clinical services. It also includes participating in clinical work when required and offering support in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's Registered Nurse Standards of Practice. Additionally, the position supports the Executive General Manager North and the Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services in delivering regionally aligned, publicly funded nursing and midwifery services.
