 About the Role

This position will provide child and adolescent psychiatry services as Senior Medical Officer to Community CYMHS, though you may be required to undertake other temporary duties as directed by the Medical Director CYMHS, CHQ HHS.  You will therefore be expected to have the knowledge and skills to safely provide a broad range of high level professional and expert clinical psychiatric services to optimise assessment and treatment of children/adolescents and their families across CHQ HHS CYMHS. This position will: 

  • Conduct psychiatric assessments of children and adolescents, and their families referred to Community CYMHS
  • Conduct psychiatric reviews of children and adolescents currently engaged with Community CYMHS
  • Availability to conduct second opinions for children and adolescents, as required
  • Manage medication regimes and review physical observations of consumers in collaboration with the child or adolescent's regular GP and/or other treating specialists
  • Medical monitoring of child/adolescents with mental health issues, as required
  • Demonstrate clinical leadership and advocacy for the mental health needs of children, young people, and their carers with relevant agencies state-wide
  • Contribute to the development of clinical practice procedures and protocols for mental health care of children and adolescents for Community CYMHS
  • Other provisions of psychiatric clinical services, as directed by the Medical Director CYMHS
