About your opportunity

The Indigenous Hospital Liaison Officer will provide support and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families.

The Indigenous Hospital Liaison Officer will support and work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary teams across the Townsville Hospital and Health Service by providing cultural consultancy and education to ensure health services provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients are culturally appropriate and safe.

PLEASE NOTE - There are three (3) casual roles available.  

Requirements

  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community. 
  • Appointment, and future increment progression, between pay points HWF3.1 to HWF3.5 requires:
    • Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health.
  • Appointment, and future increment progression, between pay points HWF3.2 to HWF3.7, or HWF3.8 (limited to employees who meet the requirements of HED 04/23) requires:
    • Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.
  • Note:  A suitable applicant that does not hold the Cert IV or Diploma qualification may be appointed at the HWF3 (no qualification) level for a fixed term (temporary), subject to engaging and participating in a learning agreement to obtain the required qualification with support under HR Policy G10 Study and Research Assistance Scheme (SARAS). Upon completion of your qualification, you will be progressed to a Permanent HWF3
  • Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class “C” motor vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided before commencement of duty. 
  • Blue Card Checks: Potential applicants are advised that the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000 requires Queensland Health to seek a ‘working with children check' from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian prior to appointment to this position. 5.1.

    • Salary range: $48.75 to $67.05 p.h. (casual rate) (HWF3)
