The role will require an advanced level of knowledge, skills and experience to perform complex forensic anthropological examination of human remains, including specialised analysis of skeletal trauma and providing independent expert reports to assist with identification to coroners/police in relation to missing persons, homicides and other cases. A key responsibility of the position is the preparation of independent expert reports to support identification processes and provide evidence to coroners and law enforcement agencies. This includes involvement in cases relating to missing persons, suspected homicides and other medico-legal matters.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

• Demonstrated specialist expertise in the clinical and service delivery aspects of forensic anthropology, including the ability to work autonomously and independently in the provision of coordinated forensic anthropology services as part of a multidisciplinary forensic services team.
• Demonstrated ability to produce expert forensic anthropology reports including identification reports to coroners/police in relation to missing persons, homicides and other cases.
• Highly detailed understanding of the principles of rules of evidence as they pertain to the provision of oral testimony and expert evidence in court and at coronial inquests.
• High-level understanding of the role of the forensic anthropologist in disaster victim identification activities, and the identification of ancestral remains and repatriation back to Country.
• Highly detailed understanding of the Coronial, Policing and Legal aspects of medico-legal death investigation in Queensland, including knowledge of coronial legislation, preliminary examinations and identification procedures.
• Demonstrated advanced understanding of post-mortem CT scanning, including diagnostic competency in the interpretation of skeletal imaging and osteoarticular pathology.
• Advanced technology skills, with detailed understanding of the use of missing person and other databases, as applied to human identification and missing persons investigations. 
• Highly developed communication skills including demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a complex forensic service and professional environment.
• Demonstrated expertise in research and the ability and capacity to work autonomously and independently in a service-based research and teaching environment.
• Teaching experience and ability to coordinate and deliver courses, seminars and other teaching activities, including forensic anthropology, skeletal anatomy and/or radiology.
