The Advanced Scientist functionally reports to the Director of Chemical Pathology and collaborates closely with various stakeholders, including the Pathology Queensland Clinical Trials and Client Services staff, Cancer Screening Branch (CSB) NBS Program Manager and healthcare units in the development and delivery and chemical pathology clinical trials, projects and newborn screening.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in clinical trials, research and development activities within clinical pathology laboratories, including assay development, validation and translational research.
- Demonstrated knowledge of research governance requirements, including ethics processes, regulatory frameworks and compliance obligations relevant to research conducted within healthcare and laboratory environments.
- Advanced understanding of clinical laboratory standards, accreditation requirements and regulatory frameworks applicable to pathology laboratories and research activities, including NATA/ISO accreditation and other relevant standards.
- Demonstrated ability to manage research or project-related finances, including billing, cost recovery, grant funds or project budgets, ensuring appropriate financial accountability and governance.
- Highly developed written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, negotiate outcomes, resolve issues and positively influence internal and external clients.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive partnerships and collaborations with clinical services, research organisations, academic institutions and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy, data integrity and high-quality outcomes.
- Demonstrated client focus, with the ability to build effective working relationships and deliver high-quality services to meet stakeholder and organisational needs.
- Understanding of laboratory quality systems, including quality assurance, validation, documentation and continuous improvement processes.
