As a Phlebotomist at Redcliffe Hospital, you’ll be part of a dedicated and supportive team delivering high-quality pathology services to the local community. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for collecting pathology specimens from patients across the hospital, playing a vital role in supporting accurate diagnosis and care. Alongside specimen collection, you’ll contribute to the smooth operation of the laboratory through a range of general lab duties.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following: 

  • Demonstrated experience or ability to acquire experience in the correct procedures of specimen collection/phlebotomy including canulation and the application of established policies and guidelines with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of the importance of standard precautions in dealing with patients and biological specimens.
  • Proven ability to follow instructions and work conscientiously and accurately with minimal supervision after careful instruction.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff and colleagues.
  • Positive focus upon patient care within a hospital health care environment.
  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.
  • Demonstrate data entry skills with the ability to work accurately and give attention to detail.
  • Experience in or the ability to rapidly learn pre-analytical process in a large and complex specimen reception unit.
