We’re seeking a skilled and motivated senior clinician to lead our Mental Health Acute Care Team. This role provides high‑level clinical expertise, operational leadership, and strategic direction to ensure the delivery of safe, timely, and effective acute mental health services across the North West Hospital and Health Service.

About the role

You will provide advanced clinical expertise, operational oversight, and strategic leadership within a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment. You will support the delivery of acute mental health assessment, intervention, crisis response, and intake services, ensuring high‑quality, culturally safe care for consumers across the region. Working closely with the Nursing Director and senior clinicians, you'll foster team capability, drive service improvement, and contribute to an integrated, recovery‑focused mental health system.

  • Lead and support clinical staff by providing high‑level specialist assessment, complex case advice, supervision, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Coordinate and oversee the Acute Care Service's operational requirements, including workload management, governance, quality improvement, and performance development.
  • Provide strategic direction, service planning input, and authoritative clinical guidance to stakeholders across MHATODS.

Working with us

    • Eligible health practitioners entitled to accrue an additional three days professional development leave per annum, resulting in a total of six days professional development leave per annum.
    • Eligible health practitioners working in designated remote areas will be entitled to a professional development allowance of $3,512.00 per annum.
    • Rural and Remote incentive: Category D allowance of $431.22 p.f.
    • Tax savings through salary sacrificing options are also available.

Requirements

      • Potential applicants are advised that the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000 requires Queensland Health to seek a ‘working with children check; from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian prior to appointment to this position.
      • Mandatory requirements are a relevant tertiary degree qualification and appropriate registration/licences.
      • C Class Motor Vehicle Licence.
      • Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including Criminal History checks.
      • This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
      • A period of probation may apply.
