The outer western region of our service includes extremely remote communities. Cairns Hospital is the only major referral hospital in Far North Queensland and also provides care for people from Cape York and the Torres Strait.
About your opportunity:
This position is based at Cairns Hospital. It is operationally responsible for 17.5 FTE speech pathologists, 2 FTE Audiologists and 2.1 FTE allied health assistants within the Speech Pathology and Audiology Department and is professionally responsible for 31.31 speech pathologists across the CHHHS and provides professional advice and advocacy for 4 FTE speech pathology positions in the Torres and Cape HHS.
The position reports operationally to:
- The Executive Director of Allied Health for leadership, strategic direction, workforce development, clinical and professional governance for speech pathology and audiology services across the CHHHS and;
- The Director of Allied Health for speech pathology and audiology services within Cairns Hospital.
About your role:
- Assist the national and state-wide development of speech pathology services to ensure the ongoing high quality standards of care and performance through the development, implementation, maintenance, and reporting of professional standards, education, research systems, competencies and speech pathology services' key performance indicators.
- Responsible for providing strategic counsel to the CHHHS Executive regarding workforce and service planning, models of care and service delivery, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Accountable for the operational management of staff within Speech Pathology and Audiology Services at Cairns Hospital, and as otherwise directed by the Executive Director of Allied Health and/or Director Allied Health, including the facilitation of staff development, performance appraisal and other general people management issues.
- Apply a high level of clinical knowledge and skills to the management of the Speech Pathology and Audiology Department's clinical services, ensuring alignment with the CHHHS organisational goals.
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of high level relationships with the relevant universities involved in education of speech pathology and audiology students and the provision of appropriate student management within the CHHHS.
- Apply detailed knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, workplace instructions, Health Service Directives, and their application within the fields of speech pathology and audiology.
