About the role

Recreation officers provide services to promote and facilitate leisure opportunities and access for consumers. The role is fundamental to improving the health and well-being of consumers of through providing social and individual stimulation and preventing loneliness and boredom.

Recreation Officers work within a multidisciplinary framework ensuring their practices adhere to the Residential Aged Care Standards and National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. Core to the role is the planning and implementation of a recreational program appropriate to the needs and abilities of the consumers within the designated facilities across Community and Oral Health (COH).

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Assess the needs of consumers and plan individual and group lifestyle programs as a part of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Complete/maintain social profile and lifestyle assessments for consumers.
  • Implement and evaluate activities appropriate to the consumers' needs.
  • Work closely with the MDT and Senior Recreation Officer (based offsite) in developing house-based programs and conduct both facility-based and facility-wide recreational programs and special events
  • Liaise with community groups and organise activities which will maintain consumer contact and involvement with the local community.
