About the role
The Clinical Nurse – Palliative Care Unit provides advanced clinical nursing care to consumers/patients with complex and life‑limiting conditions while supporting the effective operation of the unit through leadership, education, and evidence‑based practice. Working closely with the Nurse Unit Manager and multidisciplinary team, this role delivers expert assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care, and provides guidance and support to registered and non‑registered nursing staff in complex clinical situations. The Clinical Nurse may act as shift coordinator or team leader, assume professional leadership in the absence of a Nurse Grade 7, and contribute to portfolio responsibilities as negotiated, ensuring high‑quality, consumer‑centred palliative care underpinned by Metro North Health values and standards.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:
- Practice in accordance with code of ethics, professional standards and legislation affecting nursing practice by maintaining current knowledge and competence within scope of position.
- Apply advanced clinical nursing expertise, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to deliver a high standard of consumer/patient centred care.
- Respond appropriately to and provide support and direction to manage sudden alterations in the health status of the consumer/patient using advanced nursing assessment and intervention skills.
- Provide teaching to both consumers/patients and their families to facilitate learning and enable them to move towards independence.
