Principal Advisor, Timely Investment Infrastructure Maintenance Program

Queensland’s hospital system is facing greater demand and pressure than ever before. This is driven by our growing and ageing population, and compounded by pressures on primary, aged and disability care. To help address this, Health Infrastructure Queensland (HIQ), in partnership with Hospital and Health Services (HHS), is leading the biggest hospital expansion program Queensland has ever seen. The program includes building three new hospitals, expanding 11, upgrading rural and regional health facilities and delivering thousands of new hospital beds. In addition, the intent is for this to be the first tranche of a 15-year program of infrastructure investments. Working in HIQ, you will forge a new sustainable delivery model and contribute to the delivery of projects that ultimately improve the health and wellbeing of Queenslanders – what could be more rewarding than that?

About the role:

As a Principal Advisor, you will support the delivery of quality health services in Queensland by helping to ensure Queensland Health has the appropriate funds to support the capital replacement and renewal programs and the policies that govern capital funding. You will work with limited supervision in a specialist team that requires you to liaise with and build productive relationships with stakeholders across the Department and Hospital and Health Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage strategic governance and capital programs of work, including planning, monitoring, reporting, and delivery across multiple projects and facilities.
  • Provide high-level advice and prepare complex documentation, including executive briefings, budget submissions, business cases, and Cabinet Budget Review Committee (CBRC) materials.
  • Analyse capital health expenditure, funding, and performance trends to inform decision-making and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, manage risks proactively, and coordinate information requests to support strategic outcomes across Queensland Health.

About you:

To be successful in the role, you will need demonstrated:

  • Communication, interpersonal, consultation, partnership, and negotiation skills to achieve outcomes
  • Knowledge of and experience in health facility planning and design, associated business case development processes, contemporary governance mechanisms including policy, and a working knowledge of health care systems
  • Project management, strategic, conceptual and analytical skills relevant to health infrastructure
  • Skills and experience in proactively monitoring trends, identifying and analysing problems, developing and implementing remedial strategies
