The provisional fellowship year, commencing in 2027, is to transition to consultant practice the fellowships are structured to allow a mix of independent practice where the fellow is the senior on the list, supervised time with consultants, after hours emergency work as the senior anaesthetist supervising registrars and experience with remote senior call.

The Role

An opportunity has become available for several Provisional Fellows (Anaesthetics) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 13 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

  • Provide anaesthetic care for patients undergoing anaesthetics or sedation
  • Establish anaesthetic management plans
  • Provide consultative services to hospital medical staff concerning anaesthetic
  • Available for urgent consultation and assistance in resuscitation of critically ill patients
  • Provide preoperative assessment of surgical patients 

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

  • Tertiary degree in Medicine, Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent
  • Registered trainee with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and be eligible to commence training as a Provisional Fellow.
  • AHPRA Registration
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
  • Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary

  • Temporary full time (14 positions, up to 12 months with the possibility of extension)
  • Base salary ranging from $134 489 - $155 125 per annum

About Us

The Department of Anaesthesia provides Anaesthetic and Sedation services at the three Campuses of the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service: Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH), Robina Hospital, and Varsity Lakes Day Hospital. The Anaesthetic Department consists of over 100 specialists and 60 trainees and provides a service across the 3 hospitals, covering 32 operating theatres, 3 interventional radiology/hybrid theatres, and a variety of other procedural rooms such as MRI, endoscopy, and interventional cardiology. Gold Coast University Hospital is the largest facility with 20 operating theatres, plus interventional, hybrid and four endoscopy suites. It is a Level One Trauma Centre and has the busiest Emergency Department in Queensland. All major tertiary services are onsite including cardiothoracics, paediatric surgery (PICU and NICU) and neurosurgery. We also have a busy obstetric unit with over 5000 deliveries per year.
