Your Opportunity

As a Senior Program Officer in our Operational Communications Unit, you will play in key role in the organisation by bringing your technical project expertise and proactive problem-solving to QFD.

This role truly is a frontline-enabling position where your work directly impacts the safety of our firefighters and the communities they protect. You will join a high-energy, responsive team that provides the strategic direction on communication capability and equipment standards for QFD's mission-critical radio, cellular, and satellite systems.

In this fast-paced environment, you will bridge the gap between complex contract management and real-world operational readiness. Whether you are delivering logistic projects to enhance operational systems, auditing fleet communications or deploying at short notice to support incidents and disaster operations, your curiosity and solutions-focused mindset will ensure our teams stay connected when it matters most.

Based at Albion, you'll use your agile approach and ability learn on the fly to ensure communications equipment and resources are always response ready in an ever-changing environment! And when a disaster activation comes, you're ready to:
* Represent QFD and contribute to the delivery of projects in accordance with the Operational Communication Plan to ensure outcomes are delivered within agreed timeframes.
* Provide in-field support for project rollouts, communication deployments, and logistics operations, including response activations requiring deployment to operational locations across Queensland at short notice.
* Manage faults, escalation and resolution of technical issues and coordinate maintenance of operational communications equipment to ensure service delivery continuity.
* Undertake and manage sourcing initiatives, including research and development of specifications, tendering documents, evaluation and implementation of appropriate communications equipment.
* Manage supplier contractual performance, including the evaluation and acceptance testing of enhancements to operational communications fleet and equipment.
* Monitor and conduct regular audits of the specialist communications equipment and infrastructure, identifying risks, and providing recommendations for improvement to enhance operational capability.

What You'll Bring

We want to hear from you if you are more than a technical coordinator; you are a versatile professional who thrives in environments where priorities can shift in an instant. You understand what it means to support the frontline: balancing a portfolio of projects and rollouts, keep logistics moving, and making sure our people have what they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.

You enjoy the diversity of working shoulder-to-shoulder with teams whose priorities are immediate and operational, and those that are focused on the latest technologies. You can translate complex technical concepts with vendors, project leads, and you never lose sight of the person at the end of the system. You are comfortable with the hands-on rollout and deployment of technology in real-world environments. Getting out with the teams you support, seeing your work in action, and solving problems on the ground is something you look forward to.

We are seeking a proactive collaborator who can:
* Stimulate ideas and innovation: You look for ways to improve processes and systems. You bring a creative approach to solving technical hurdles and identifying the "next generation" of communications capability.
* Make insightful decisions: You can cut through complexity to make sound, data-driven decisions that balance technical requirements with the urgent needs of an emergency response environment.
* Drive accountability and outcomes: You take true ownership of your portfolio. Whether it is managing a vendor contract, coordinating a logistics rollout, or auditing a fleet of radios, you ensure every task is completed to a standard that keeps Queenslanders safe.
* Build enduring relationships: You communicate with influence and empathy, building trust with internal stakeholders, volunteers and external partners to understand business needs, coordinate and implement service delivery improvements or develop new initiatives that support operations.

You will have a proven track record in project coordination, contract management, or technical service delivery. While not mandatory, we would highly value:
* Experience within an emergency service organisation or a similarly high-pressure 24/7 environment.
* Knowledge and/or experience with managing large-scale logistics within a complex service delivery environment.
* Familiarity with the Australasian Inter-Service Incident Management System (AIIMS)
