About the role

A senior technical role that combines hands‑on clinical support with operational and people leadership. Based within the Surgical Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS) Pharmacy, this position plays a critical role in ensuring medicines are supplied safely, efficiently and in alignment with best practice across the patient journey.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Provide a defined range of clinical support tasks for patients relating to components of the medicines management cycle, in line with professional standards with appropriate training, supervision and competency assessments. 
  • Demonstrate a proficiency and role model an efficiency with medication orders and prescription preparation including the management of admission and discharge electronic medication profiles. 
  • Lead the STARS Pharmacy inventory management processes including ordering, receiving, storage, distribution and stocktake of medicines and optimise stock control within the STARS Pharmacy, including high-cost drugs, equipment and consumables. 
  • Lead and monitor quality improvement activities relating to dispensing and medicines distribution. This includes reviewing and updating work instructions, guidelines and procedures relating to medication distribution and electronic medicines management as well as documenting and reporting on departmental performance indicators relevant to the dispensary. 
  • Chair pharmacy technician meetings, reporting upwards to the pharmacy management group and reporting management decisions to the assistants.
