About us:
The Strategy and Planning team provide strategic leadership, strategic direction and coordination for planning initiatives across Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, to meet the current and future health care needs of our community.
Cairns Hospital is the largest major hospital in Far North Queensland, caring for patients from the Mossman/Port Douglas to Tully in the south and out to Croydon in the west.
Our population is 260,000 with First Nations people making up 14% of the region's population. Cairns Hospital provides a range of specialist outpatient, inpatient, and emergency services from its CBD site on the Cairns Esplanade. The hospital has 506 inpatient beds and 53 emergency department treatment spaces, 16 ICU beds, 22 special care nursery beds, 48 inpatient mental health beds and 25 maternity beds.
Cairns offers a widely-varied lifestyle in a tropical environment boasting several local landmarks and is the perfect base from which to explore the tropical north. Popular activities include exploring the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree rainforest, as well as the Atherton Tablelands to the west of town and the Port Douglas region to the north. Cairns is also a well-known venue for sporting events, such as mountain biking competitions and marathon festivals.

About your role:
- Extract large data sets from multiple sources, analyse and interpret results to inform planning requirements for population health projections, local needs assessment, geographical or health infrastructure planning, specific population group planning, health demand and scenario impact projections.
- Undertake research and environmental scanning activities to proactively support the delivery of innovative, enhanced/ alternative models of care, or service re-orientation in line with local, state, and national directives.
- Manage and coordinate designated data analysis projects, undertaking responsibility for planning, scoping, and scheduling activities, and completing projects in accordance with agreed timeframes and deliverables.
- Provide analysis and feedback on Federal and State policy and planning documents, such as guidelines, frameworks, benchmarks and ensure their correct application when producing planning artefacts.
