About the role
The Senior Mental Health Liaison Clinician provides specialist mental health expertise within the Queensland Police Service Communications Centre, supporting frontline policing responses to mental health crises in real time. The position also contributes senior clinical leadership, interagency collaboration, and service improvement within a high‑pressure, fast‑paced operational environment.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:
- Provide a direct response within the QPS Communications Centre to police negotiators as required. This may include mental health triage of calls; gathering relevant information; provision of high-level advice regarding the application of the Mental Health Act 2016; facilitating access to services and follow up as required.
- Co-lead and direct Multi-Disciplinary Team Review Meetings, which includes the review and co-ordination of referrals, clinical services provided, onward referrals, and discharge of consumers.
- Provide high-level clinical advice to QPS officers attending to people in mental health distress.
- Utilise high-level communication skills and knowledge of learning principles to contribute to the development and delivery of relevant training for both QPS and mental health services.
- Participate in and lead evaluation processes and quality improvement activities that foster an effective interagency partnership and promote positive consumer outcomes.
