This advanced practice role involves coordination of clinical services, delivery of high‑quality nursing care, and accurate data collection and activity capture. The position provides expert assessment, management and education for patients with liver diseases, including viral hepatitis (B and C), HIV‑related liver disease, and non‑viral liver conditions.

About us:

The Gastroenterology Unit within Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) provides specialist diagnostic, therapeutic and consultative services for patients with gastrointestinal, liver and pancreatic conditions. The unit delivers inpatient, outpatient and endoscopy services, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide high‑quality, evidence‑based and patient‑centred care. Services are delivered in accordance with Queensland Health policies, safety standards and CHHHS values, supporting both acute and ongoing clinical management across the region.

About your role:

  • Provide advice based on sound knowledge of the speciality area, as a senior member of the multi-disciplinary team, acting as a resource for others.
  • Provide effective and efficient management of service in collaboration with the Nursing Director/Director of Nursing, clinical and non-clinical staff to facilitate the provision of quality evidence based care.
  • Operate with a significant degree of autonomous clinical decision making in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provide specialist clinical advice, recommendations and education to individuals and groups including clients and staff with diverse requirements via a range of methods.
  • Provide direct clinical care and advice in a defined practice area for client group with diverse and/or complex care requirements. Demonstrates a high level of proficiency in the understanding, application, analysis and interpretation of a professional body of knowledge to provide sound advice and support to less experienced nurses/midwives.
