Gladstone Hospital is a dynamic 70-bed facility delivering an impressive mix of general and specialist inpatient and outpatient services. From Emergency, General Medicine and Surgery to Obstetrics, Maternity, Paediatrics and Coronary Care - this hospital covers it all! Add in Orthopaedics, Medical Imaging, Pathology, Palliative Care, and High Dependency services, and you've got a hub of comprehensive care. Beyond the wards, the support continues with Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Oral Health, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Speech Pathology, plus outreach and community-based services.

About the role:

Step into a hands-on, high-impact role where no two days are the same! As Senior Staff Specialist/Staff Specialist Anaesthetist, you'll deliver high-quality anaesthetic care across theatre lists including endoscopy, general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, dental and investigative services. Your expertise will also shine in pre-anaesthetic clinics, acute ward rounds for high-acuity patients, and providing critical care leadership within the High Dependency Unit.

You'll lead from the front - managing airways, providing ventilatory support, central access, and pain management, while coordinating patient transfers with Retrieval Services Queensland. Alongside clinical care, you'll help shape quality and safety initiatives, audit practice, and contribute to risk management and service improvement.

Collaboration is key, with opportunities to mentor medical staff and students, contribute to multidisciplinary care, and represent the service on committees. Join the after-hours roster, expand your scope across Gladstone and surrounding sites, and keep your skills sharp while supporting a dynamic regional anaesthetic service.

About you:

  • MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia is mandatory for this position.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Specialist in Anaesthesia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). In general, this will require Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) is mandatory.
  • If applicant does not hold FANZCA, then their application must be accompanied by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists assessment of their specialist qualification and requirements to attain FANZCA.
  • Enrolment and maintenance of ongoing CPD program of appropriate College is desirable.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $557,878 p.a. is comprised of:

  • A salary rate between $216,643 - $251,642 p.a. (L18 – L24)
  • A salary rate between $259,072 - $274,678 p.a. (L25 – L27)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
