About us:
Our team comprises of a number of clinical professionals with subspeciality interests of arthroplasty, sports, foot and ankle, hand, shoulder and spine. We have one AOA SET trainee, 9 Principal House Officer's (PHOs), 2 RMOs and 4 interns. Medical students from the University of Queensland rotate through the Department. We also have an Orthogeriatrician working alongside us.
Orthopaedic patients are admitted to the 36-bed surgical ward. Our theatre complex comprises 5 operating theatres and 1 procedure room in Rockhampton and 3 operating theatres in Gladstone. The Orthopaedic unit places significant emphasis on working as a cohesive supportive team and we look forward to welcoming the successful candidate into our work family.
About the role:
Get ready to flex your knee-ded expertise! This role delivers a specialist elective and trauma knee service - from primary and revision arthroplasty to sports knee soft-tissue work, while keeping you in the action with general orthopaedic trauma. You'll operate, run elective and fracture clinics, mentor trainees, and drive audit, M&M, and research (because great surgeons don't just cut — they cutting-edge).
Teamwork is front and centre, collaborating closely with physio, teaching junior doctors, and even shaping future clinicians with University of Queensland opportunities. You'll work across Rockhampton and Gladstone, with telehealth reaching throughout Central Queensland and beyond, spreading knee-know-how far and wide.
With a 1:7 on-call roster, permanent flexible full-time hours, and plenty of variety, this role really stands up as a joint-effort career move. Ready to step into something knee-tastic?
About you:
Do you hold the below mandatory qualifications? Perfect!
- MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA). This will require Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in the specialty of Orthopaedic Surgery, or equivalent recognised qualification.
- Enrolment and maintenance of ongoing CME program with the appropriate bodies.
- While not mandatory, completion of an Arthroplasty and Sports Knee subspecialty fellowship is strongly recommended.
What we offer:
Total remuneration value of up to $550,085 p.a. is comprised of:
- A salary rate between $259,072 - $274,678 p.a. (L25 – L27)
- A salary rate between $216,643 - $251,642 p.a. (L18 – L24)
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
- 17.5% leave loading
