What your day could look like
As an Ambassador in Medical Unit 5, you'll play a vital role in supporting patient wellbeing and safety while strengthening trust between patients, visitors and the care team. From calming challenging situations to creating positive first impressions, your presence helps shape a respectful, safe healthcare environment.
Every day, you'll contribute by:
- Building positive connections with patients and visitors to reduce distress and improve experiences
- Helping prevent and defuse challenging behaviours using calm, people‑centred communication
- Working closely with clinical and security teams to support safe, coordinated care
- Creating a visible, reassuring presence that promotes dignity, respect and safety for all
Let's Talk About You
You bring warmth, confidence and emotional intelligence to every interaction. You stay steady under pressure, lead with compassion, and know how to support people through vulnerable or challenging moments. In this role, you'll feel proud knowing you help prevent escalation, protect staff and patients, and make hospital spaces feel safer and more human. You're not just maintaining order — you're creating moments of calm, dignity and trust.
Here's what will help you thrive in this role:
- Experience supporting people in complex, high‑pressure or health‑related settings
- Strong communication skills with a calm, respectful and empathetic approach
- Sound judgement and confidence in de‑escalation and conflict prevention
- Willingness to work shifts across a 24/7 roster and meet health and safety requirements
You'll stand out if you have experience working with cognitive impairment, dementia or behavioural support, and/or training in violence prevention or mental health.
Above all, you'll bring the values we live by at Darling Downs Health — compassion, integrity, dignity, innovation and courage — and use them to create safer, more connected experiences for patients and teams.
