About us:

Our Ophthalmology team delivers specialised outpatient eye care, covering a broad range of general ophthalmology services. We manage conditions affecting the front and back of the eye, including corneal disease, cataracts, glaucoma, and common eyelid disorders. Our team also provides care for diabetic eye disease and retinal issues, including laser treatments, and responds to ocular trauma. In addition, we support paediatric patients, addressing conditions such as squint and amblyopia, ensuring comprehensive eye care for patients.

About the role:

  • Provide clinical practice and operational supervision to work experience students, or those involved in observational clinical placements. As level of experience increases, provide clinical education for students and less experienced staff with support of senior clinical staff.
  • Develop professional competence and acquire the theoretical knowledge and skills necessary to perform Orthoptic Services to accepted standards of professional conduct and the application of evidence based practice including, but not limited to, testing visual acuity and intraocular pressure, biometry (IOLmaster and A scan), refraction (objective and subjective), scanning and image capture, computerised visual field testing, amblyopia and squint assessments, Patient screening for diabetic retinopathy and drug toxicity.
  • Undertake referral management in support of Ophthalmologist.
  • Deliver as part of a multidisciplinary team, sound independent evidenced based Orthoptic services across single or multiple modalities within the Ophthalmology Team.

About you:

  • The successful applicant must hold a tertiary degree qualification (or equivalent diploma prior to 1990) in Orthoptics and registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board.
  • Upcoming graduates awaiting conferral of qualifications and registration will be considered for this role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of orthoptic investigations and of the operation and applications of contemporary equipment.
  • Clinical competence/experience in objective/subjective refraction, retinoscopy and cyclo-refraction of children would be a distinct advantage. 
  • Demonstrated ability or ability to rapidly acquire the skill to provide a quality service through participation in professional development and evidenced based practice within a professional governance framework.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $132,567 p.a. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $43.68 - $58.59 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
