Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment is a central priority within our Hospital and Health Service, with support provided across all levels of the organisation, including senior management and executive roles. Through the creation our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Talent Pool, we endeavour to create clear career pathways for career progression, leadership development and ensuring the retention of our First Nations staff. Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service operates on the Traditional lands of the Butchulla, Bailai, Gooreng Gooreng, Gurang, Kabi Kabi, Taribelang Bunda, and Wakka Wakka peoples.

Mandatory Requirements of all Identified roles:   

  • To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. 
  • An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who:  
    • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person; and either  
    • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; or  
    • is accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.

Prior to being made an offer of employment, you will be required to demonstrate immunity to the following Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD): Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (chicken pox), and Pertussis (whooping cough)
