Role details

The Sexual Health and Sexual Assault Service at the Mackay Community Health Centre is seeking applications for a Clinical Nurse Consultant (Outreach) to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC)is an advanced practice registered nurse position within Mackay Sexual Health Service. The CNC is expected to possess a specialised clinical expertise and/or specialised skill set with Sexual Health Nursing and provision of care.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant with Mackay Sexual Health Service will have the opportunity to:

  • The CNC will provide advanced clinical skills and knowledge related to Sexual Health, nursing interventions related to the prevention, treatment, and management of blood borne viruses, and STI's, inclusive of the full spectrum of Sexual and Reproductive health care priorities outlined in the Queensland Health Sexual Health Strategy.
  • To promote, encourage, educate, and support clinicians and other health professionals to conduct contact tracing for persons diagnosed with sexually transmissible infections (STIs) across Mackay HHS.
  • To provide direct support for complex contact tracing scenarios as required.
  • To promote and support the public health management of STIs/BBVs.
  • Assessment, management and treatment in the STI/BBV, transgender, contraception, and unplanned pregnancy domains.
  • You will plan and coordinate the clinical management of client care.
  • You will work within all relevant legislation, guidelines and procedures related to Sexual Health.
  • You will increase the awareness of individuals and the community about issues directly affecting their sexual and reproductive health and enhance their ability to make informed choices.
  • Will have responsibility to actively contribute to professional portfolio content and context expertise.
  • Expertise in the provision of direct care and/or support of systems and/or education and/or professional leadership.
  • Consultation and provision of professional advice.
  • Responsibility for a cohort of staff reporting to the position. and/or education and research advice.
  • Queensland Health, under the Termination of Pregnancy Act 2018 supports a woman's right to reproductive health choices. Mackay Sexual Health participates in all parts of services related to this, including choice around termination of pregnancy. All practitioners within this small unit do need to be comfortable working in this space.

About the Team

The Mackay Sexual Health Service is located within the Mackay Community Health Centre, 12-14 Nelson Street, Mackay. This facility also provides services inclusive of Mental Health, Renal home therapies, Alcohol and Other Drug Services and Breast-Screen. The MSHS is located off the courtyard toward the rear of the Mackay Community Health Services building which has entrances from Nelson St. through the main foyer and from Wellington Street through the government car park at the rear. This Service operates during Monday -Friday between the hours of 0800 – 1630. The Mackay Sexual Health Service provides services to all male and females over 14 years of age.
