About the opportunity  

The Food Services Operational Services Officer (OSO) provides operational support to ensure the highest standard of function service delivery and the achievement of Townsville Hospital and Health Service strategic objectives.

The position is responsible for meal production, service, and delivery of the Townsville Hospital kitchen and to ensure the safe delivery, evidence based, best practice food and nutritional service to all inpatients across the Townsville Hospital campus.

The department comprises approximately 105 staff.

PLEASE NOTE - There are 20 casual positions available.

Role requirements

  • While no formal qualifications are required, basic food hygiene knowledge and completion of or the willingness to undertake training in Certificate II in Health Care would be highly desirable.
  • The appointee to this position will be required to carry out frequent and repetitive lifting and manual handling of goods.
  • The position is subject to flexible roster arrangements that may include a periodic requirement for work on weekends and evenings.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role. Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Tuberculosis.

  • Salary range: $40.22 - $42.91 p.h. (casual rate) (OO2)

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated skill or ability to acquire skills in all aspects of hygiene preparation and delivery of food to the Queensland Health standards and associated guidelines.
  • Possession of both written and oral communication skills and an ability to interact with all levels of staff to establish and maintain productive relationships.
  • Commitment to Quality Improvement practices though participation in the development, implementation, review and maintenance of internal systems processes and work practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with a degree of independence and to work towards achieving pre-set goals.
