About the work unit / facility

Parklands Residential Aged Care Facility is a service within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service and is supported by the Rural Hospitals Group. The facility provides care for 70 residents.

The McCarthy high‑care frail aged unit has 40 beds, including one community respite bed. The Nautilus unit has 30 beds and provides care for mobile, wandering residents within a secure environment; it includes two community respite beds.

  • Base salary range: $35.04 - $36.73 p.h. (OO3)
  • 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading

About your opportunity

In this role, you will play a key part in delivering timely, high‑quality meals to residents at Parklands Residential Aged Care Facility. You will follow standard recipes, support food safety requirements, and contribute to a well‑organised kitchen environment. The position includes supervising catering staff, managing daily kitchen activities, and coordinating food orders and deliveries.

You will also liaise respectfully with residents and health care staff, maintain confidentiality, and support continuous quality improvement across kitchen operations. This role suits someone who is organised, adaptable, and committed to providing excellent service in an aged care setting.

Skills and experience

  • Ability to provide catering or meal services in an aged care or similar environment, with a focus on teamwork and following procedures.
  • Practical cooking skills, including food preparation, production, presentation, and general kitchen operations.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, using good judgement and prioritising tasks in a busy environment.
  • Good communication skills to liaise respectfully with residents and staff while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn, food safety standards and quality control processes.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and continuous quality improvement.

Desirable (but not mandatory)

  • Trade‑based qualification or demonstrated competency in professional and dietary cooking within a health care setting.
  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
