This role provides professional and high-level technical expertise that enables the implementation of effective Health and Safety management plans for the Department of Health divisions. The role will work in collaboration with another Principal Health and Safety Advisor and lead one of two teams of Senior Health and Safety Advisors to guide the development and tactical implementation of work health and safety (WHS) programs and framework.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide timely expert advice and recommendations within the HSRT, to the HSRT manager, Department senior managers, employees and other stakeholders on a range of complex and sensitive issues relating to health and safety service delivery, policy, legislation and projects to ensure effective outcomes for the Department.
  • In collaboration with the other Principal Advisor and manager, develop and implement relevant systems, strategies and processes across the Department to integrate the principles and practices of health and safety into business as usual.
  • Manage the identification, research and analysis to design, develop and implement strategies and projects that enhance health and safety capability across the Department.
  • Participate in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health and safety related information systems across the Department that you will utilise to capture and report on a range of qualitative and quantitative measurement and performance data.

Role Fit:

We're looking for someone who has highly developed technical skills and knowledge in a wide range of WHS hazards, including risk management, with a record of effective application across a large, client focused, high performing, diverse workforce and geographically dispersed organisation. You will have high-level ability to analyse, plan and create innovative health, safety and wellbeing initiatives. High-level interpersonal, problem solving, negotiation, presentation and relationship management skills are essential to the Principal Health and Safety Advisor role.

Whilst not mandatory, a relevant tertiary qualification in Health and Safety, or a related discipline would be well regarded.
