The Senior Policy Officer position sits within the System Policy Branch. System Policy Branch leads development of the Department's strategic policy and program response for priority patients. This includes key responsibility for major service interfaces including Primary Care, Aged Care, Disability and the NDIS, Correctional Centres, Youth Justice and Child Protection systems. The Delayed Discharge Policy and Program unit also manages hospital discharge initiatives.

About the role:

This role contributes to and supports a range of strategic policy and program activities and projects to enable Queensland Health to efficiently and effectively discharge its system manager functions, particularly focused on domestic and family violence health system reform.

As a Senior Policy Officer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop policy documents (or components to influence new models of health service delivery and achieve government priorities).
  • Consult to achieve Branch and organisational outcomes.
  • Prepare timely, well researched briefing documents, submissions, correspondence and reports.
  • Communicate with staff and other stakeholders openly and with mutual respect.
  • Utilise and ensure compliance with contemporary human resource management practice and principles including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination requirements.

Role fit:

The successful applicant will have a proven track record in analysing and interpreting data and translating it into well-informed health policy. You will have strong writing skills and be experienced at preparing policy materials for a range of audiences. Your communication skills will be exceptional and you will have a demonstrated ability to negotiate with, and influence, stakeholders to achieve high-quality policy outcomes.
