About us:
The aim of the Post Operative Discharge Support Service (PODSS) for Rockhampton Hospital is to provide alternative pathways to access specialist care for post operative surgery patient experiencing complications.
The intent is to streamline the patient journey, reduce representations to Emergency Departments, improve continuity of care and provide an overall improved patient experience. The practice of the PODSS Clinical Nurse Consultant incorporates advanced knowledge and skills in surgical supportive care, including providing specialised and tailored information and education, psychological support, and clinical care.
The primary objective for the PODSS Clinical Nurse Consultant is to support patients who have been discharged from Rockhampton Hospital following a surgical procedure to ensure they access timely care in an appropriate setting.

- Demonstrates an advanced level of autonomous clinical and professional practice.
- Demonstrates an advanced level of decision making in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Undertakes operational leadership.
- Works collectively to apply the principles of clinical governance.
- Applies professional and clinical expertise in collaboration with nursing and midwifery and multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
- Takes responsibility for enacting strategies that supports a work-based culture than promotes and supports education, learning, research, and workforce development.
About you:
- Current registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is mandatory.
- A relevant postgraduate diploma is an expectation of this position. Where the successful applicant does not currently hold this qualification, commitment to completion within an agreed timeframe is expected.
- Demonstrate advanced specialist contemporary perioperative/postoperative knowledge, experience, and clinical skills.
- Evidences the ability to integrate relevant healthcare and clinical care standards into own clinical practice and support others to do so.
- Demonstrates high level communication skills, ability to employ interest-based problem solving, negotiation skills and conflict management.
What we offer:
Total remuneration value of up to $145,944 p.a. is comprised of:
- An hourly rate between $70.58 -$76.63 p.h.
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
