About your opportunity:
From 1 January 2023, eligible people in Queensland who are diagnosed with a life‑limiting condition and experiencing intolerable suffering while approaching the end of life have access to an additional end‑of‑life choice, enabling them to determine the timing and circumstances of their death.
The Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Nurse plays a vital role in delivering this service within CHHHS. Working as part of an authorised multidisciplinary team, the VAD Nurse provides compassionate, person‑centred care and supports the delivery of an equitable, safe, and responsive service for individuals navigating the VAD pathway.
About your role:
- Work with the Nurse Grade 7 to deliver a seamless VAD process driven by patient need including medication administration and terminal phase care both in tertiary and community care settings.
- Work with patients on an allocated case load ensuring both legislation, patient care standards are met.
- Strictly adhere to the legisltation and principles of the Voluntary Assisted Dying legislation when carrying out duties across practice environments, including public, private, Commonwealth and community setting.
- Work is conducted across the whole Cairns and Hinterland Health Service foot print so an ability to travel is required.
