About us:

The Medical/Surgical Ward 1 Unit is in Block One on the first floor of the Gladstone Hospital. The service offers a total of 42 inpatient beds which cover sub-acute, medical, surgical, rehabilitation and palliative care patients plus an eight-space transit lounge. The Medical/Surgical Unit provides clinical care through the development and maintenance of relevant and proven patient care standards involving ongoing research in clinical applications.

About the role:

This role combines advanced clinical nursing practice with early leadership responsibilities as a Nurse Grade 6. You'll deliver high-quality, patient-centred care in line with NMBA standards, including managing complex cases with strong assessment, critical thinking and intervention skills.

Alongside clinical care, you'll hold a portfolio that may include leadership, education, research or management, supporting a Nurse Grade 7 while guiding RNs, ENs and support staff. You'll play a key role in mentoring, fostering continuous learning and contributing to evidence-based practice.

The position also involves supporting organisational systems through policy adherence, quality improvement, and participation in audits and research. Overall, it's a well-rounded role where you lead within your scope, drive safe, high-quality care, and help strengthen team capability in increasingly complex clinical environments.

About you:

  • Current registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is mandatory for this position.
  • A relevant postgraduate certificate or post graduate diploma is an expectation of this position. Where the successful applicant does not currently hold this qualification, commitment to completion within an agreed timeframe is expected and will form part of the performance and development plan.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $124,593 p.a. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $57.48 - $61.55 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
