What your day could look like

As a Gardener at Darling Downs Health, you'll play an important role in shaping outdoor environments that promote safety, recovery and pride across our sites. Your work helps create calm, well‑maintained spaces that support patients, visitors and teams every day. Working alongside a dedicated maintenance team, you'll contribute to a health service that cares deeply about its people and places.

Every day, you'll contribute by:

  • Creating and maintaining healthy, attractive gardens and green spaces that enhance the experience of patients, staff and the community
  • Using your expertise to care for lawns, trees and landscaped areas so they remain safe, functional and visually welcoming year‑round
  • Operating and caring for horticultural equipment to ensure work is completed efficiently and to a high standard
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to support a clean, safe and well‑maintained environment across the service

Let's Talk About You

You're someone who takes pride in a job well done and understands the difference great outdoor spaces can make to how people feel. You bring care, consistency and attention to detail to your work, and you value being part of a team that supports a vital community service. You'll feel proud knowing your efforts help create places of dignity, comfort and healing.

You're not just maintaining gardens — you're helping set the standard for how our health service looks, feels and operates every day.

Here's what will help you thrive in this role:

  • A relevant horticulture qualification and hands‑on experience in grounds or garden maintenance
  • Confidence using and maintaining horticultural equipment and tools safely and effectively
  • A practical, reliable approach with the ability to make good decisions and deliver quality outcomes
  • Strong communication skills and a genuine commitment to working safely and collaboratively

You'll stand out from the crowd if you have experience in large or complex environments and enjoy contributing ideas that improve outdoor spaces.

Above all, you'll bring the values we live by at Darling Downs Health — compassion, integrity, dignity, innovation and courage — and take pride in making a positive, visible difference every day.
